A hematinic is a medicine that increases the hemoglobin content of the blood. Hematinics are used to treat iron-deficiency anemia. Hematinics are usually vitamins or minerals, such as vitamin B12 or iron, that are essential for normal erythropoiesis. Recently, they have been used in conjunction with Folic Acids to help the body to produce and maintain new cells and prevent malignant DNA changes. – See link
